BACKGROUND

Interleukin 13 (IL-13) is a single-chain glycosylated polypeptide, which belongs to the IL-13/IL-4 family. Some time ago, the Th2 cytokine, interleukin (IL)-13, was identified as a critical regulator of the allergic response. IL-13, a T-helper type 2 (Th2) cytokine, was first described in 1993, identified by molecular cloning in activated human T lymphocytes. IL-13 was reported to direct cells towards the Th2 pathway, with induction of B cell production of IgE. As a cytokine, IL-13 protein is critical in regulating inflammatory, immune responses, and diseases. Also, it inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and thus down-regulates macrophage activity. In particular, IL-13 up-regulation is associated with severe disease.

Active Recombinant Mouse IL-13 Protein was determined by SDS-PAGE with Coomassie Blue, showing a band at 18-30 kDa.

Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF-1 human erythroleukemic cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 1-10 ng/mL.
